The Power of a Pre-Treatment

shampooing hair

In 2017, we are seeing a change in the way that men and women are caring for their hair. Have you ever wondered why different hair care companies are marketing their products so that you condition your hair first, and then shampoo afterwards? This is due to the rise of the “pre-treatment” across the hair care market. Here is everything you need to know about a pre-treatment and how you will benefit from it!

What is a pre-treatment?

A pre-treatment is a treatment that is applied to dry hair prior to regular cleansing and conditioning. It’s purpose is to deeply penetrate the hair to moisturize and protect hair strands prior to shampooing the hair. Pre-treatments are also formulated for other purposes, such as to prevent breakage or to prevent color loss or fading in aging hair.

Why would I need a pre-treatment instead of a conditioning treatment?

When hair is damaged or compromised, it has a hard time retaining moisture, color, and strength.  It has always been routine to cleanse, condition, repeat. Little did we know, cleansing first can be aggressive if the hair doesn’t have a strong enough foundation to begin with. A pre-treatment will treat the hair to prevent moisture loss, color fading, and further damage caused by harsh pollutants and oils.
