When it comes to caring for your wig or hairpiece at home, we want you to be comfortable and confident in achieving a beautiful result while protecting the overall integrity and quality of the hair. When there is limited access to professional maintenance & styling services, here is a quick guide to help you wash, condition, and style your hair system and receive a salon quality result.
When it comes to using the right hair care products on your wig or hair piece, it is recommended that you use a salon professional brand of hair care. At The Salon at 10 Newbury, we primarily use Living Proof, Goldwell, & Olaplex products to provide the highest quality of care. We recommend using a shampoo that is sulfate-free and paraben-free for a gentle cleanse to preserve the condition of the hair. Using a conditioner with either restoring or hydrating properties will help retain moisture in the hair.

For some wigs and hairpieces, a detangling product is sometimes needed to help get through any slight tangles gently without causing any damage or breakage to the hair. A detangler would be applied to the clean, damp air after cleansing & conditioning followed with a gentle combing using a wide-tooth comb.
*Tip – Try using a detangler that is also a leave-in conditioner for easy combing and extra hydration.
When using hot tools on your wig or hairpiece, such as a blow-dryer, flat iron, or curling iron, it is important that you prep the hair with the heat protectant to reduce damage and dryness from the high temperatures.
To preserve the hair color from fading as quickly from being out in sun-rays, it is recommended that you use a hair product that has a UV filter. The UV filter will help lock in the color for longer lasting results.
