There is a new hair trend taking hold that focuses on scalp care. We’re seeing more and more products that focus on scalp health, including scalp scrubs, shampoos and treatments. Plus, some spas in the New York area are among the first to offer scalp “facials” to their service menus. These “facials” consist of a scrub and scalp massage combination that aims to decrease levels of dirt, debris and gunk that can clog hair follicles.
Hair follicles look – and act – like facial pores. As a result, dirt and bacteria can clog and irritate both. Silicon-based hair products are a major culprit for scalp issues. Over time, these products start to build up bad bacteria, which can result in irritation, itchiness and even hair loss. Another culprit can be dry shampoo because its direct application onto the scalp can cause hair follicles to clog.
As more of an emphasis gets placed on scalp care, these new scalp products and services will become even more commonplace and part of our regular beauty regime. By showing your scalp some TLC and reducing the dirt and debris that is clogging your hair follicles, issues like oiliness, dryness, and even some types of flakes can be a thing of the past.
